A fantastic spiny trilobite, Cyphaspis, from the Atlas Mountains,- Hamar Laghdad Formation - Erfoud,in Morocco. It dates from the Devonian and is approx 360 million years old. A highly detailed specimen.

Trilobites were hard-shelled, segmented sea dwelling creatures that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. They are one of Earths earliest complex life-forms and are a e key signature creature of the Paleozoic Era. Trilobites went extinct before dinosaurs even existed.

The name 'TRILOBITE' means 'three lobed" and comes from the fact these animals had bodies that had three longitudinal lobes, not lateral (head, body, tail) as is often thought.
