Hypsilophodon Illium (131) A Fantastic bone. A section of Ilium from a Hypsilophodon, it was found near Shepherds Chine on the Isle of Wight, Hypsilophodon lived during the Early Cretaceous Period, and is believed to have belonged to the Ornithopoda, or bird-footed group of dinosaurs. The name Hypsilophodon, meaning High-Ridged Teeth, comes from the shape of its teeth, which allowed it to grind up its food prior to swallowing it. This small sized dinosaur is one of very few reptiles to have had cheeks. This would have allowed it to keep food stored in its mouth while it chewed, similar to how humans chew food today.
