Product Information

A Stunning Dinosaur Egg, believed to be the egg of an oviraptor. Found in the Late Cretaceous of the Djadokhta formation of Bayan Mandahu, Inner Mongolia. It dates from around 75 million years ago.

 Oviraptor was an unusual therapod from Mongolia and China, A slim-bodied biped, Oviraptor had powerfully muscled jaws and a sharp toothless beak; its short snout was topped with a horny crest. Its name is Latin for 'egg seizer', referring to the fact that the first fossil specimen was discovered on top of a pile of what at the time were thought to be Protoceratops egg's. Later discoveries showed that the eggs had in all probability been laid by oviraptor itself.

A simply wonderful specimen of a highly sought after dinosaur egg with nearly 100% shell intact.
